INTRODUCTION.jpg

There is an island where rivers run deep. Where the sea sparkling in the sun earns it the name Jewel of the Antilles.
The great nation of Burania (BR) was declared its independence from the Great Oppresing Nations Everywhere (GONE) in 1989, once the King and Queen declared the native people, the Burrises, as illegal and tried to exile them. Adamently refusing to leave their home land, which is also their Holy Land, the Burrises were led to victory by the Great Sara, or the Great Burris, who was then declared their unconditional leader, and ultimate leader of all the tribes. Of the four theories of state, the one that would describe this with the most accuracy would be Tribal. Almost all people left are native born, or else sided with and fought alongside the Great Burris, who she ruled were allowed to stay. Suffering from this loss, GONE stayed in the shadows for a while, regathering their strength. Then, in 2001, they launched a massive offensive, killing hundreds and burning one entire tribe's village to the ground. Vowing revenge, the Great Burris retaliated, declaring war on the nations of GONE and swearing to destroy them. The Great War, as it is now called, is ongoing, and shows no sign of slowing, both nations attacking each other brutally, refusing to back down.

The national tree, as decreed by Great Burris, is the cherry blossom:

The flower is the Dahlia:

The national anthem is "Gotta Get Back to Hogwarts."

geography.jpg
While we have a good idea of where in the Pacific Ocean Burania is located, we cannot be sure because it keeps the exact location secret, blindfolding all who cross into their ocean area, the idea put in place when the Great War began. Burania is about the size of the state of Georgia, with a tropical climate, and has plenty of jungle. With about 70% of land capable of being farmed, agriculture is very important, but they do not trade much, they barter amongst themselves. It has oil, plenty of trees, and an abundance of platinum mines, all of which are very successful. Unfortunately, three months of the year they have a season of hurricanes and vicious storms. Three other months are far too dry, and fires from the bombs run rampant.

Since the island of Burania is so small, there isn’t a very large population compared to other countries like India or China. The total population of the entire island is approximately 5,267 people.
populationgroup9.jpg
The country of Burania is a country of very healthy people due to the great weather and food. A Buranian can live up to be 165 years old. However the average age of the Buranian is around 63.
agegroup9.jpg

27 percent of the people in Burania live in urban areas. Since the island is so small, and the capital is also small, there aren’t many people in the urban areas of the country than there are in the non-urban areas.

The people of Burania are a proud people, a people who love their ruler more than any other in known history. Originally, the people of Burania did not see themselves as united. Back before the Great Burris, back when the nation was still known only as "Nyumbani", translated as the word "home", they were a relatively seperate people, twelve distinct tribes, with a pact of friendship linking them together. But once the attacks began, and the Great Burris began her reign, they united against their oppressors, joining together. Now, though the tribes still exist, the tribes are now known as the Tribes of the Buriniadites, the people themselves called Buranians.

Most Buriana's are Christians. We don't have a different type of religion. We are not really judgmental when it comes down to religion. Burania has the same religion as the United States of America. If you are a Buranian you usually are a Catholic or Baptist. You can be either as long as you believe in the same God.

In the 1980's Burania spoke English because most people from the islands spoke that language. Then in the year of 1996, the President of Buriana (Great Burris) wanted to change the name of their language. The President wanted to show respect to the Great Burris. When he finally decided to name the new languae The language that is now spoken is Burrish. It is a combination with Burris and English.

Burania is a very fashion forward country. Men and women mostly wear mc hammer pants with big Christmas sweaters on top. But the thing that Buranians wear proudly and believe will never go out of style is the Snuggie. You can find people wearing them anywhere in Burania.

Buranians most famous food is chicken. We also have alot of different spicy seasoning that we put on our food. The season is called Burris Jerk Seasoning. To go with our delicious chicken and seasoning is rice. Our juice that we drink is Burr-aid. It is a type of colored juice where you mix it with water and sugar

There are two major holidays on the island. The first, Sikukuu Ya Meno, literally translated as the Feast of Teeth, in which the Buranians shoot off fireworks, dancing in the streets, food everywhere, in honor of both the Great Burris and all those who have died in either Great War. The Great Burris decreed this holiday come into being, celebrating the tribes freedom from the control of GONE, and respecting all those who brought this about. Even during these times of war, Great Sara and her country continue to celebrate this, almost in an act of defiance to their enemy and former ruler. The other big holiday for them is called the Hanging Socks, or Kunyongwa Soksi, which is basically the equivalent of Christmas. This began when the Great Burris went to the U.N. to discuss the Great War, in the dead of winter. The people of New York were celebrating and advertising a holiday she had never heard of. While in the United States, Great Sara converted to Catholicism, and when she returned to her home she brought with her extravagant tales of this magical holiday, where they hang socks in by the chimney and give gifts to one another. The people quickly grew attached to the idea, and soon it was a national holiday.

As with any State, there are certain things that set Burania and its people apart from the rest of the world. In Burania, it is accepted -- and even expected
-- for each person to carry around with them a bottle of Holy Water, as well as a wand. It is also customary for parents to choose their child's future spouse, and for children to be sorted, at a young age, into the group with which they will work and learn until they become of age -- which, on the island, is sixteen. There are, however, some taboos, one being biting your thumb at someone. It is thought of as the highest form of disrespect. Another would be treachery. It is thought of as selfish, insulting, a capital crime, especially during times of war, when many people could die because of one person's actions.

economy.jpg
*Overview of economic system and current economic challenges (provide clear description
and explanation.
Burania has a free market economy, and is self regulating. As it is for the most part cut off from the outside world, they mainly compete with each other, and as it is a tribal, small island, everyone is fair with their prices, allowing it to actually reflect cost of production. As the consumer's also are usually selling as well, and money is not an abundance, the Buranians only make what is needed or will be bought, whereas some wealthier nations make useless, pointless items that no one buys. Currently, however, with so much money being spent to prevent and prepare for war,
*GDP (overall real GDP expressed in US dollars)
The overall real GDP, expressed in US dollars, is about $23,000,000
*GDP per capita (also expressed in US dollars—make sure this coincides with your
population numbers!)
The GDP per capita is about $4,367, expressed in US dollars.
*GDP growth rate (is economy growing or slowing? At what rate from previous two
years?)
The GDP growth rate in Burania is growing because the job that we provide has enough Burania Bucks to give to the employees. Over the last two years the GDP rate drop because we started supplying less equipment and materials. We didn’t need a lot because we didn’t think it would be another war. After the burania killed some of our people we have decided that we need to keep supplying just case there is another war.
*Labor force by occupation (% agricultural; % industrial; % service)
About 85% of the population is within the labor force, as the Buranians start working right when they can, and continue until they die. There are also a small amount of handicap people, both born and caused by accidents. Of this, about 35% currently work as industrial workers, 10% more than usually, as the threat of attack and the enemy has increased. 50% work in agriculture, as food is extremely important, in peacetime and wartime, and farmland is plentiful.
*Unemployment rate
In Burania, the unemployment rate is low because most of the people in our country has a job. The Buraians are either farmers or works in factories. The farmers provide food and the factory workers make clothes, toys, shoes, and even weapons. They make weapons because we don’t know when our enemy will try to declare war. We make sure everyone in our country is protected and we also make sure they have clothes on their backs.
*% population below the poverty line
The percentage of the people of Burania that are below the poverty line is 50%. However, on this island of two different classes, you are not judged on how much money you have.
*Income distribution
How much one makes is usually directly proportional to how much a Buranian sells, the quality and quantity of their produce, but most make about $3,134, in US dollars, a year, if they are in agriculture. The industrial workers, since demand is so high, get paid around $5,434 US dollars annually.
*Inflation rate (compare to previous two years)
*Name of currency
The name of our currency is called The Burania Bucks. The Burania Bucks was named after our country. The nick name for our money is B.B or bucks. This money is used the same way as the United States money. It just has different look. The Bucks was made by a great artist that was a close friend of the leader of Burania. The leader of burania had to agree that this will be the look of our money. When the leader agree this was the money that we used to purchase stuff.
*Exchange rate to US dollar
$1 = 2 B.B.
*Agricultural products (must have at least 3—must coincide with geography)
Lychees, bananas, guavas, avocados, and mangoes are some of the agricultural products that Burania has.

The types of industries are farmer, teacher, and factory workers. The natural resources that we have is trees, water, animals and the help from everyone in our country.
*Major exports (must have at least 3—must coincide with agricultural and industrial
production)
The three main major exports of Burania are Snuggies, bananas, and books. Obviously the Snuggie factory is in Burania, that’s why Buranians wear them so much, and bananas are a natural resource from Burania. But something you might not have known is that Burania is the book printing capital of the world.

The seventh Saturday of July every three years, there are elections for The Enforcers, after all of the candidates have been screened by the Great Burris. Are there additional branches? If so- what are thy and how are they chosen?
The Asili Mahakama, or low courts, are a group of Elders chosen by the people, with one low court per tribe.

*Political Parties The two groups is the Kiongozi and the Wassi.
-Do a few dominate? If so- what are they? And why?
There are two major political parties within Burania. The Kiongozi, the party of the Great Burris, dominates, and a large majority of Buranians belong to this party, as it represents the fair and just leader who freed them and kept them safe during the first Great War. The second largest group, the Wassi, is of the opinion that one Great War is more than enough, and call for Switzerland-like neutrality in all military matters, unlike the Kiongozi, who are not afraid of a fight, and do not back down. This party has been growing gradually as GONE releases more and more evidence of the destruction they could cause to the small island nation.

DUE APRIL 21ST - 100 POINTS

budget.jpg
-Total Budget
The total budget for Burania is about $3.5 trillion, which, although not nearly as much as the United States, is more than enough to run and protect the island nation.
-Tax Revenue
Sales tax is very important to the nation, and over the course of the year ends up gathering about 36% of the budget. Income tax does very little, managing an average of 24%, far less than would be expected.
The final big budget making tax is on imports and exports. Together, these make the final 40% of the budget, and prove the most important, and the most worrying. As the war rages, the people fear more and more a blockade or something similar might be put into play. This would effectively weaken the country's economy and defenses.
-Spending
Most of the Buranians, as well as the government, tend to be very frugal. As most of their trading is between tribes or within their own, they tend to be able to save money and still keep unemployment low. THe government of Burania spends around $2.8 trillion dollars a year now that war has returned. Before, they rarely even needed to reach $1 trillion.
-Top 5 mandatory spending items
Social Security $695 billion(+4.9%)
After mandatory spending $571 billion(+58.6%)
